buy razer phone

After being a dominating force in the PC gaming accessories business for more than a decade, Razer has finally decided to enter the growing market of smartphone gaming with the Razer Phone. As gamers, we love the idea that a company dedicated to gaming is entering the smartphone arena to go toe-to-toe with established giants like Apple and Samsung, but one cannot help but see past the fanfare and ask the obvious question; is their debutant smartphone really worth buying?

Solid Specs

There is no doubt that the Razer Phone is an Android beast when it comes to raw power. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 8GB of RAM and a vibrant 5.7-inch Quad HD screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The 4,000mAh battery is quite impressive on paper, but it doesn’t last half as long as it should unfortunately. The dual 12-megapixel cameras with 2X optical zoom at the back are more than just capable and their performance both in well-lit and low-light conditions is excellent.

Not the Most Stylish Smartphone Out there

In a world where every phone is trying to shed its bezels, the Razer Phone holds on to its bezels and then some! However, it’s not a bad thing at all because Razer has put in two excellent sounding stereo speakers on both sides that actually face you. Although the boxy design will not win any awards, and the sharp corners tend to dig into your hands after a while, it’s a design that chooses functionality over aesthetics and that’s fine because it’s a phone for gamers.

What’s the Difference?

Now, does all of this make the Razer Phone an excellent Android smartphone? Yes it does. Does the Razer Phone have anything unique that will make it perform better as a gaming phone in comparison to the likes of the Galaxy S8 or the iPhone X? That’s doubtful! The 120Hz display is perhaps the only major difference between the Razer Phone and its competition and there’s no doubt it’s a significant one. However, without any exclusive games or internal hardware to justify that “gaming phone” tag, the Razer Phone is in truth, just another flagship smartphone. The 120Hz display definitely looks and feels smoother but there are hardly any games available on the Play Store that can take advantage of the technology in any way that’s significant. Besides, while the front facing dual speakers and the display gives the Razer Phone an edge, the competition has better software integration, better pricing and more attractive design elements working for them. The Razer Phone will go on sale for $699 from November 17 and it’s not a bad buy, but you may want to look at other options, especially if you value battery life and aesthetics.
